[非公開] Old Man on Canal with Buckets
I have no idea what the buckets were used for. We stumbled into him and a group of boys on our way to explore around the area of the canal and ocean. We were on CPX exercises and were camped not that far from the Pacific Ocean. We could not hear the waves breaking but the wind off the ocean was strong and strong enough that it caused one helicopter to crash. Nobody was hurt but it sure wrecked t..Sendai-shi|2010-03-05 11:34 am推薦 -
[非公開] Boys along Canal to Ocean
We were on CPX exercises and the second day, we met these four boys and a man with a boat and several wooden buckets. None of us could speak any Japanese then and the boys could not speak English. So they smiled at us and we smiled back at them. The man and his boat saw us on the bank or trail where the boys are and he smiled. He had a lot of wooden buckets but we had no idea what they were used..Sendai-shi|2010-03-01 11:23 am推薦 -
[非公開] Pencil portrait
Mr. Endo, front row, second from right, was one of the original Lincoln Ring members (shown here), used his expertise with cameras and drawings to come up with a number of portraits of me. He used photographs as models and much of what you see was done on his computer and the end result is computer generated. If you want to learn how ..Sendai-shi|2010-02-12 03:04 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Yokohama
Jim DeMarco and I took a train from Sendai, Japan and rode to Tokyo, Japan. A long journey back then and one we enjoyed as we had meals in the dining car. In those days the trains were divided by class. First class was the best and including a dining car, bunk beds, shined shoes and a nice bathroom. The seats were more like American seats in the coach car and not fixed to walls like a bench in S..Sendai-shi|2010-02-11 12:40 am推薦 -
[非公開] New Zelkova Trees
These are newly planted Zelkova trees on one of the main streets in Japan. Maybe Aoba-dori or another. I made it a sepia color for this post. Notice the muddy conditions on the right side of the island. And the old Japanese car. Now, these many years later, these small trees became the lush Zelkova trees that line its streets. Green is especially abundant in the center of the city, which has tre..Sendai-shi|2010-02-10 06:01 am推薦 -
[非公開] The things I did once I left Japan
I really don’t remember too much about all of this. I do remember being taking downtown in a car and being sent into a photo studio where a series of photographs were taken. This is one that I was able to find and was able to reproduce the poster. I had said in the previous post that I was a long younger when I did this show and this is me then – back in 1989 I was 55 years old – now look..Sendai-shi|2010-02-08 06:10 am推薦 -
[非公開] Little House on Castle Hill
This little house was on the side of Castle Hill. I think the owners ran a small coal mine on the property. I have seen photos of slabs of coal being slid down the hill. Anyway, this photo was taken a long time ago with a Canon Camera, and the original 35mm color slide had faded. But it worked good enough to make this print.720-on-castle-hill_image018Originally uploaded by oldmanlincolnSendai-shi|2010-02-05 04:43 pm推薦 -
[非公開] The train station in 1954
The train station looked like this when I was in Sendai-shi. It had a nice restaurant inside that was small but they did serve some delicious American-like food – from, French Fries to tasty coffee. I saw a lady from India in the restaurant one time and she was wearing the red painted dot on her forehead. She was an attractive woman and it was the first time I had seen the red dot between the ..Sendai-shi|2010-02-04 08:24 am推薦 -
[非公開] Colorful Japanese landscape in 1954
On a trip from Yokohama back to Sendai I had my trusty Canon film camera and we began passing some nice farms as we got closer to Sendai, Japan where I was stationed. I snapped this picture as the steam train went chugging past the cluster of houses in this rural community. When looking at it there is just enough movement to make it look more like a watercolor painting than a photograph. What do..Sendai-shi|2010-02-03 12:01 am推薦 -
[非公開] Abraham Lincoln, you dirty devil…
This is a photo that was taken of me in a restaurant in Yokohama, Japan in 1954. I was looking at some of these old black and white photos that I took that long ago and how nice they still are. I wish I still looked like that but then I was all of 20 years young. Wore an Army style flat top hair cut and did my best to woo the ladies when I had some money and there were some ladies. Who would hav..Sendai-shi|2010-02-01 12:58 am推薦
