[非公開] Talking Tactics
After two matches which have seen Japan playing defensive stifling tactics, what can we look for in the final crucial match with Denmark? Japan’s approach stifled the Dutch in a similar way to how Denmark did in the previous match. With Yuki Abe covering the back four and aiming to prevent the dangerous Sneijder from picking up the ball, and the other four midfielders sitting deep and closing..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-21 10:32 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Strange facts about Japan – as publish..
This list of 10 weird facts about Japan was published on football website mirror football a couple of days ago. Many of these we already knew, the petition to remove Okada for instance, but others may be new… 1. Japanese fans have sent a 1,000-name petition to their FA demanding the sacking of coach Takeshi Okada. He was boss for Japan’s 1998 campaign but was dismissed after they scored onl..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-17 07:16 am推薦 -
[非公開] Japan’s best World Cup goals
Ok so Japan have only actually scored 8 times in the World Cup finals so far – not many it’s true, but that doesn’t stop me from deciding which are my top 3 from those. Now I should point out that my top 3 aren’t based purely on aesthetic beauty – after all you could score a marvelous goal in a match of no significance, and to me that’s not as good as a goal at a vital time of a vita..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-08 03:44 am推薦 -
[非公開] Another loss, African style this time
Japan’s final World Cup warm-up match ended in another defeat, this time 2-0 to the Ivory Coast. The goals came courtesy of an early strike in the 13th minute from Didier Drogba another Tulio own goal (this is becoming a habit!), and a second on 79 minutes from Kolo Toure. This time Tulio’s own goal was a deflection from a Drogba free-kick – let’s just hope he’s getting all these thin..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-04 09:29 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Japan v. Ivory Coast Preview
So to the final warm-up match ahead of the World Cup, and it’s another tough test for Japan against the Ivory Coast. The final 23-man squad had to be submitted earlier this week to FIFA, but as we know Takeshi Okada had already announced the 23 a couple of weeks ago, so no dramas for Japan come 1st June. But this does mean that the 23 have had a few weeks to gel and after an improved showing a..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-03 08:20 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Asia’s World Cup Story – 12. 2006 – Ba..
A mere 39 of the AFC’s 44 teams entered the 2006 World Cup Asian qualifying, with 4 teams deciding not to enter this time around – Cambodia, Philippines, Bhutan and Brunei. The one remaining AFC member Myanmar was banned from competition, leaving us with 39. 4 teams would qualify automatically, with a 5th playing off against a CONCACAF team for a possible extra place. Qualifying A prelimin..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-03 04:55 pm推薦 -

[非公開] Who will be in the final 23?
It’s almost time for the squad announcement, with Takeshi Okada set to name names on May 10th. I’d previously thought that this would be a provisional 30 man squad, as the likes of England are doing, which would then be trimmed down to 23 by 1st June, the FIFA deadline. But some news outlets state otherwise so it seems I was making assumptions, and in fact Okada will be naming his final 2..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-05-05 11:58 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Japan v. Serbia mini preview
Ok so this match isn’t exactly what we’d been hoping for from our World Cup warm-up fixtures, an under strength Japan taking on a severely under strength Serbia, but let’s take a more positive outlook on it all. This match does provide the opportunity for players (on both sides) to stake their claim for a World Cup place in the absence of some of the more established players. We’ve had ..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-04-06 04:29 am推薦 -
[非公開] Striking Gold? Japan’s World Cup strik..
The final part of my look at Japan’s potential squad is of course up front where the real action is. This is where dreams are made and dreams are dashed. Unfortunately in Japan’s case, there hasn’t been much of the former, and far too much of the latter in recent times. The Blue Samurai’s blade is blunt, and that would be something of a worry at anytime, let alone just before World Cup..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-03-13 07:03 am推薦
